The senior Obi 68, who was abducted from his residence in Jos, Plateau State, was rescued by the men of the Kano State Police Command on Sunday.
The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Raphael Isah, told journalists in Abuja on Tuesday that soldiers from the 3 Division of the NA were holding a sergeant and corporal over the unfortunate incident.
He said the Army would ensure that the affected soldiers were sanctioned in accordance with military law if found guilty.
Isah quoted Azubuike to have said he would not tolerate such an abhorrent act of indiscipline as the allegation of criminal complicity in the abduction issue.
He added that the leadership of the Nigerian Army was bothered by the alleged involvement of soldiers in kidnapping and armed robbery and would take steps against anybody found to have ventured into such crimes.
He said the arrest of the two soldiers suggested the impossible involvement of the men of the Army in the crimes.
According to him, those arrested include Ifeanyi Essiet, Ndubuisi Friday, Basil Chukwuma, a woman - Nkechi Ossai - and a Nigerien national, Sule Ibrahim.
He explained that the suspects were operating in a vehicle painted in military camouflage when they were arrested.
He said, "We view this seriously especially the mention of soldiers of the Special Task Force Jos, as suspects by the victim.
"This brings to the fore the fact the Army in itself is not insulated from the kind of criminal activities that we see and hear from the larger society.
"The Military Police have also commenced investigation to verify this serious allegation. We equally want to assure that the Army Headquarters is disturbed and will not hesitate to deal with any soldier who would want to throw away the core ethics of the profession by engaging in such criminal activities as kidnapping, robbery and the like.
"We also want to confirm that investigations are ongoing as directed by the COAS in Biu, Jos (Barkin-Ladi) and Abuja regarding the alleged involvement of soldiers in some reported cases. The outcome of these investigations will be made public as soon as the Military Police conclude their investigations."
